petrol是petroleum的縮寫。petro這個詞根是岩石的意思，所以petrol是從岩石下鑽出的油。是石油。
而oil更寬泛，可虛顫指任何油輪啟類。工業加工油、動物油。都可以。//也可以指石油，但這么用往往在口語中，是非正式用臘譽如法。
