LPG商用：
LPG是石油產品之一，是從油氣田開采、煉油廠和乙烯工廠中生產的一種無色、揮發性氣體，主要應用於汽車、城市燃氣、有色金屬冶煉和金屬切割通等行業。
近幾年全球LPG產量增長較快，2011年全球LPG產量達到約2.5億噸，同比增長3.73%，預計到2014年全球LPG產量將增長到2.75億噸。
中國是全球LPG行業發展較快的國家之一，產量從2004年的1399萬噸增長到2011年的2181萬噸，年復合增長率達6.55%;2012年1-4月中國LPG產量為733.24萬噸。
中國LPG的消費增長也較快，從2004年的萬噸增長到2011年的2419萬噸，年復合增長率為1.95%。2012年1-4月我國LPG消費量為755萬噸，同比增長5.30%。
LPG作為中國汽車替代能源技術中應用最成熟的燃料，預計未來我國城市民用燃氣中的LPG大部分將被天然氣所替代，而作為石油煉制的副產品LPG產量將隨著煉油總量的增長而增長。
屆時，LPG產能過剩，價格自然不會如同汽柴油一路攀升，應用於汽車上不僅經濟效益凸顯，還能削減溫室氣體排放，因此，LPG作為汽車燃料的前景值得看好。
商用LPG的主要來源是對天然氣和石油的處理和提煉原材料中通常包含過量的丙烷和丁烷部分。以防這兩種物質在高壓排氣管中凝結,所以必須要將它們去除。
在石油提煉過程中。LPG是從原油溶解的比重較輕的混合物中通過滴定法來收集的。同時也可以通過比重大的碳氫化合物的分子裂變來產生。因此，LPG被人們認為是附屬產品。它的准確成份和特性通常依來源不同而各異。
LPG的單位重量比汽油所能提供的能量要高8%。(LHV=19,757BTU/lbm)理論上來說配有LPG的車輛要比汽油驅動的車輛產生更高的效率。這種車可以獲得更低的油耗同時提高運行里程。然而，這只是針對專門為LPG設計和改造的發動機而言。
如果將一台汽油機改成LPG驅動型,就不會獲得這種增加效率。因為LPG比汽油的密度低的多，相對對氧的需求就高,而這種更低密度的燃料將進入的空氣取代。所以進入到缸體內的空氣就會變少，這就使單位體積的效率降低。比起原汽油發動機所產生的動力來說。動力會降低。

丙烷的沸點是-42攝氏度，因此是特別有用的輕便燃料。這就意味著即使溫度很低，丙烷從高壓容器釋放後，也能立刻汽化。因此它是清潔燃料，不需要許多設備使其汽化並與空氣混合。一個簡單噴嘴就足夠了。
丁烷的沸點約為-0.6攝氏度，溫度很低時不會汽化。因此丁烷的用途有限，需與丙烷混和使用，而非單獨使用。
液化天然氣（LNG）的主要成分是甲烷，還有少量的乙烷和丙烷。
液化天然氣無色、無味、無毒、無腐蝕性，天然氣在常壓和-162℃左右可液化，液化天然氣的體積約為氣態體積的1/625。
